Obituary: Herbert Bridgman, Jr.

Herbert Bridgman, Jr., 82 of Newport and Batesville passed away in his sleep on March 11, 2020, in Jonesboro. He was born January 20, 1938, to Herbert and Clara (Linville) Bridgman of Newport. Predeceased by his sister Emogene, and brothers Everette, Edward, Romig, and Charles, and his daughter Samantha. He married his high school sweetheart, Louise (Ireland) Bridgman whom he lost in July of 1998.

He is survived by Catherine (Howard) Bridgman, his wife of 20 years; His son Joseph (Susan) Bridgman and grandson Alexander Bridgman and granddaughter Sydney Bridgman. His extended family Rita (Brian) Peterson, Kathy Wills, Mark (Karin) Howard, Rena (AJ) Pourciau, and Lesa (Roy) Roach, and many grandchildren.

He was a man of integrity, honesty, and love. He would do anything he could for someone in need. He worked hard starting out as a mechanic, worked as a farmhand, and finally to Wal-Mart as a manager. He was an Army Veteran that served in Vietnam, earning certificates of expert with pistol and sharpshooter with a rifle. He knew God and had many discussions with people about the Bible. He always said, having faith and knowing God is what matters.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2020, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Remmel-McCall Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday, 12:00 to 30 until service time.
