Obituary: Charles V. “Bud” Clark

Charles V. “Bud” Clark of Newport departed this life on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at the age of 85. He was born July 2, 1934, at Hope, the son of Herbert and Grace (Burt) Clark.

Clark was a United States Air Force veteran and retired from the White River Housing Authority after more than 20 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newport. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a huge supporter of Arkansas Tech baseball and loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed golf and bowling, but beyond everything else, he loved his family.

He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Logan Hopkins; his father Herbert Clark; his mother, Grace (Burt) Clark Douglas; two brothers, Jim and Don Clark; and two sisters, Polly Stoner and Nell Mayhan.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Patsy (Mantooth) Clark of the home; one son, Steve Clark and wife, Debbie, of Newport; one daughter, Dana Hopkins and husband, James, of Newport; two brothers, David Clark and wife, Pam, of Newport, and Bobby Clark and wife, Regina, of Jonesboro; two sisters, Betty Shipley of Tuckerman, and Brenda Pipkins and husband, Tommy, of Newark; five grandchildren, Aaron Hopkins and wife, Lesley of Berryville; Dustin Clark and Bree, of Newark; Zach Hopkins and wife, Maddie of Newport; Savannah Honey and husband, Will, of Tuckerman; and Sierra Mouser and husband, Will, of Jonesboro; several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.

Funeral services will be private, with burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Aaron Hopkins, Zach Hopkins, Dustin Clark, Bob Bradley, Charles Hess, Greg Bostain, Bob Chatman, and Delayne McKenney. Honorary pallbearers are John Chronister, Thomas Gregory, Mike Smith, Nickey Miller, and Dennis Wiles.
