Attack with hammer sends one man to jail

A man is in jail after a hammer attack at a Newark residence.

Court records say Chad Anthonylouis Fowler, 32, is in jail and charged with two felonies — second-degree battery and aggravated assault.

The charges came from an incident on March 20. In the court filing, prosecutors say that Fowler attacked another man with a hammer at a residence on Pete Lane in Newark. The report said the victim was asleep in bed at the time of the attack.

Prosecutors also asked the defendant be charged as a habitual offender, having previously been convicted of more than one felony.

Fowler’s bond was set at $50,000.
