A Southside man was arrested early Sunday morning for fleeing on an all-terrain vehicle from Independence County deputies.

Authorities say deputies were answering a call of an ATV causing damage to a man’s field in the Desha area. When officers tried to pull the four-wheeler over, it took off, leading them on a chase through parts of Desha and Southside. At some point during the pursuit, the ATV’s lights went off. Deputies finally stopped the four-wheeler on Community Drive.

The ATV was driven by a man identified as Bret Anthony Crick (pictured), 29, according to the incident report. Authorities say Crick told deputies he ran because he knew it was illegal to drive a four-wheeler on country roads or the highway.

Crick was taken to jail where he was cited for fleeing and operating an ATV on the roadway.

Sheriff Shawn Stephens said that over the weekend his deputies investigated three domestic violence calls. All three are still under investigation for possible charges.

The sheriff also said his department was also investigating three other assault calls for possible charges
