Following the discovery of a gunshot victim on University Loop in Jonesboro overnight, the chancellor of Arkansas State, Kelly Damphousse, asked students to shelter-in-place around 12:30 a.m., according to KAIT 8 Region News.

Around an hour ago, Damhousse issued a release regarding the incident and said, “…an Arkansas State student was shot by an unknown assailant in the parking lot of Red Wolf Den Apartments.”

After an unsuccessful search for a suspect, police cleared the scene, and the lockdown was lifted around 5 this morning.

Damphousse said one reason for the lockdown was because there are currently around 700 students scattered around the A-State campus.

The investigation is continuing.
