Obituary: Sanford B. “Toby” Staggs

Sanford B. “Toby” Staggs, 84, of Springfield, Mo. passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

He was born on September 15, 1935, in Batesville to Sanford “Shorty” Byrum Staggs and Gus (Bradford) Staggs.

Toby was a member of the Church of Christ and a 38-year veteran of the Army National Guard and retired with the rank of Major. He was a Dr. of Pharmacy for 32 years and graduated from UAMS College of Pharmacy in 1968. Toby was an amazing man; he loved his girls and grandkids. He was a licensed pilot; loved gunsmithing and enjoyed reloading ammo, watercolor painting, making flies for fly fishing and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Angie L. (Troy) Staggs of the home; two daughters, Natalie (Fred) Ginsberg of Tyler, Texas and Celeste (Ladd) Lanier of Springfield, Mo.; two grandchildren, Paige Lanier and Will Lanier; two sisters, JoAnn Wright of Hot Springs Village and Linda Hix of Batesville; sister-in-law, Fray Troy of Batesville; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Patsy Bone.

Private graveside services will be held for the family under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home with Ladd Lanier and Jim Lanier officiating.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with military honors.
