An Independence County fireman has been arrested and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer.

The incident occurred Saturday evening, May 2, at the Davis Lane Trailer Park when officers were called there on a reported altercation.

Deputy Adam McGilton talked with a male individual at the trailer park who told McGilton that a man later identified as Michael Lindsey (pictured), 20, pulled behind a vehicle in which the complainant and a friend were riding. The complainant also said Lindsey had blue lights flashing on his car.

Lindsey was still on the scene and was interviewed by McGilton and Arkansas State Trooper Brandon Trewyn. Lindsey said the lights on his car were red because he was a member of the Northside Fire Department, according to the incident report.

However, McGilton noticed the light bar had a toggle switch on it, and one side was to light the bar in red while the other side would light the bar in blue, the report said.

Lindsey also had a hand-held radio in his pocket that contained all the local law enforcement operating frequencies. Both items were confiscated by Deputy McGilton.

Lindsey’s fire chief at the Northside Fire Department, who is also Sheriff Shawn Stephens, was also notified. The arresting officers were also notified by Sheriff Stephens to seize all Northside Fire Department equipment that was in Lindsey’s possession.

A bag of fire department equipment was found in the trunk of Lindsey’s vehicle.

Lindsey was taken to jail and charged with two felonies: first-degree criminal impersonation of a law enforcement officer and use of a communication device to commit a crime.

Lindsey was placed on a Criminal Investigation Hold as per Sheriff Stephens. Lindsey was also dismissed from the fire department.
