Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens said a vehicle rollover on Gap Road late Thursday afternoon showed how area agencies can work together to save lives.

Stephens said an SUV traveling Gap Road went off the roadway at a curve and rolled down a slight embankment. The vehicle ended up on its side, up against a tree.

The Batesville Fire Department, with its rescue unit, was called to the scene to extricate the occupants of the SUV.

A BFD spokesman said Independence County Sheriff’s Department officers on the scene provided great help in bringing the patients up the embankment and to Vital Link personnel who did their usual excellent job of providing emergency care. No fatalities were reported, and the names of those in the vehicle had not been released at post time.
