Obituary: Charlie Cordell, Jr.,

Charlie Cordell, Jr., 96, of Newport departed this life Sunday, May 10, 2020.  He was born January 12, 1924, in Cave City to Charlie and Grace Jewell (James) Cordell. Cordell was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and a WWII Veteran, having earned two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars.  He retired from Farmers Electric after 37 years of employment, was a lifetime member of VFW, and an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. Turkey hunting was his passion but he also enjoyed deer hunting, squirrel hunting, trout fishing, crappie fishing, and playing baseball.

He was preceded in death by his wife; Norma Jean Cordell, one son; Edward Cordell, one daughter; Wanda Martin, parents, four brothers; Paul, J.W., Jessie, and David Cordell, and one sister; Willeen Gillett.

His survivors are one son; Wayne Cordell (Patty) of Newport, one daughter; Judy Jones of Newport, and one sister; Sue Roberts of Vadelia, La., nine grandchildren; Ted Lewallen, Brian Cordell, Casi Robison, Miranda Rounds, Tyler Cordell, Leaha Jones, Tori Rose, Jeffrey Martin, and Charlie Cordell, eighteen great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 14, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Johnstown Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
