James Darrell Vickers, 87, of Newport departed this life Monday, May 11, 2020. He was born August 6, 1932, to Joda and Gertrude (Blackburn) Vickers. He was a member of New Beginnings Church in Newport and an Army Veteran. Vickers enjoyed deer hunting, tinkering with mechanical things, woodworking, and vegetable gardening. He was a master plumber and a Gideon.
He was preceded in death by one son; Jeffery Darrell Vickers, parents, and one brother; Duane Vickers.
His survivors are his wife of 63 years; Una Jo (Guffey) Vickers of the home, one daughter; Mary Beth Vickers Cain and husband Mike Cain, two bonus daughters; Barbara Tiefenback of Newport, and Viki Dunn of Newport, one brother; B.J. Vickers of Salem, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2020, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Dillinger Funeral Home with graveside services at 2:30 p.m. in the Ballews Chapel Cemetery in Grubbs.
