During Tuesday’s Batesville City Council meeting, the aldermen will hear an update from Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Crystal Johnson and Tourism Director Kyle Christopher.

Christopher said this morning he will be asking the aldermen to approve a resolution temporarily abating and refunding Batesville’s A & P tax for the benefit of hotels and motels in Batesville. Christopher said that segment of the economy has suffered tremendously during the pandemic. He said the abatement will be for the months of February and March.

Christopher said the month of April generated very little A & P tax.

Also on the council’s agenda is the consideration of an airspace lease for First Community Bank. And the heads of law enforcement, engineering, and fire will be present to give their monthly reports.

The council meets Tuesday evening at the Batesville Community Center, with a limited number of people allowed to enter. Temperatures will be checked, everyone will be spaced for safety, and hand sanitizer will be available.

The mayor said the meeting will be live on social media since the council is limiting the number of people who can attend. He said the meeting will still be recorded and aired on the cable channel. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.
