Sheriff’s Department investigating suspected arson in Desha area

The Independence County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a suspected case of arson.

According to the incident report, Deputy Adam McGilton was dispatched late Monday night to an address in the Desha community in reference to a vehicle on fire.

The Desha Fire Department extinguished the blaze by the time McGilton arrived. McGilton observed the scene and noticed a burnt rag inside the fuel fill hose of the vehicle, the report noted.

The vehicle’s owner was asleep at the time of the incident and was woken by a neighbor who was alerted by nearby barking dogs.

Evidence and photos of the scene were collected and the incident is under investigation.
