Obituary: Kevin Young

Kevin Young, known to his friends as KY, of Newport, departed this life on Monday, June 1, 2020, at the age of 52. He was born November 10, 1967, in Newport, the son of William Dean and Lula Belle (Ivy) Young.

Kevin was a 1986 graduate of Newport High School. He was a lifelong Newport Greyhound fan, and play by play announcer. An all-around avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching the Arkansas Razorbacks and Miami Dolphins.

Kevin was a financial advisor for Thrivent Financial and past president of Village Creek Golf Course. His favorite pastime was playing golf, and he also enjoyed fishing.

Kevin was a member of the Newport First Baptist Church. One of the highlights of his life was participating in a mission trip to Peru.

Kevin had a larger than life personality, and the ability to light up any room with his sense of humor. He loved making people laugh. Kevin’s greatest joy was making friends, a task at which he was quite gifted. He was loved by anyone who knew him, and will be sorely missed.

Kevin is survived by his parents, William Dean and Lula Belle Young of Newport; one brother, Clay Young and wife, Carole Ann of Newport; one sister, Deanna Young Wrinkle and husband, Bruce, of Texarkana, Texas; his nieces and nephews, Ashley Wrinkle, Zach Wrinkle, Jennifer Bartlett, Kortny Gibbs, Kendall Hinton and husband, Hunter, and Lex Young; his great-niece, Aizlee Monroe; a great-niece on the way, Amelia Grace Hinton; many other family, and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home, Wednesday, 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Newport Greyhound Field, with Bro. Trey Johnson and Bro. Bill Chambers officiating, and music by Kasey Earl. Interment will follow in Watson Cemetery.

Masks are required for visitation, and sanitizer will be available. In accordance with public mandate, please do not enter if you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, or loss of taste or smell, or if you have had known exposure to someone with Covid-19 in the past 14 days.

You may also wish to refrain from entering if you are 65 years of age or older or have underlying health conditions including high blood pressure, chronic lung disease, diabetes, severe obesity, asthma or weakened immunity.

** Please adhere to social distancing mandates, and a mask is suggested at Greyhound Field. Also, due to the heat, you may wish to bring an umbrella for shade.**
