The Batesville High School and Junior High will have a different look this year. It’s coming from the new hires on both the senior and junior high coaching staffs.

A man who has meant a great deal to the success of the senior high program, Gary Rhodes, has decided to retire from the coaching ranks. He has served as an assistant coach on both sides of the ball, especially the coaching of line play.

Batesville High School Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Dave King said he expects that Coach Rhodes will be knocking that little white golf ball around and playing with those grandchildren.

“He’s meant a tremendous amount to our football program,” Coach King said. “He’s not only a tremendous football coach, but one of the best men I have ever known. He’s become a great role model for the young men he’s worked with for these many years. He’s going to be greatly missed. He’s a coach that’s truly loved by former players as well as current players.”

Replacing Rhodes is Matt Wentz. He is leaving the junior high program, and the position of the head coach of junior high football. He is now the senior high assistant football coach.

Moving over to the head coaching job in junior high and replacing Wentz is T. J. Stroud. He’s been with the athletic program in Batesville for several years.

There are some new hires. Bill Crotts has been hired as the junior high girls head basketball coach, replacing Patrick Trusty who has left the program.

And, Garrett Eoff has been hired as the senior high boys assistant basketball coach, head coach for the cirls soccer team, and assistant boys soccer coach. He comes from the Cave City program and replaces Jack Childers.
