New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut to mandate quarantine on travelers from hotspots, including Arkansas

If you’re planning an upcoming trip to New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut, it might be longer than expected.

The governors from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut have banded together to implement a mandatory quarantine on visitors from states that have a high percentage of coronavirus cases — and one of those states is Arkansas.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the announcement Wednesday morning at a news conference with Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy.

The order means that travelers from the selected hotspot states — Arkansas, Alabama, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Utah, and Texas — will now have to quarantine for 14 days upon arriving in one of the three northeastern states. The order would also affect residents from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut that have been to those nine states and have returned.

In a report from New York City’s NBC affiliate WNBC, Cuomo said the quarantine will apply to any state where 10 of every 100,000 people test positive on a rolling seven-day basis, or where the positivity rate in the total population is 10 percent, also on a seven-day rolling basis.

The New York governor said in an article on Fox 5 New York that police will be stopping cars with out-of-state plates in his state. Violators could face a judicial order and mandatory quarantine along with fines. The Fox 5 report also said hotel employees should be questioning guests about their quarantine.
