news-siren-78

The Batesville Police Department recently investigated two separate incidents of attempted shoplifting at the Walmart Supercenter on Harrison Street.

Authorities say one of the shoplifters was apprehended by BPD Officer Ryan Pierce, and he was returned to the store. There, he was positively identified by Walmart’s loss prevention officer who told authorities he confronted the man earlier.

The loss prevention officer said the suspect abandoned his shopping cart and fled in his vehicle before being apprehended by Pierce. The suspect was given a citation, fingerprinted at the Independence County Jail, and scheduled for a district court before being released.

The second attempt at shoplifting was by a man loss prevention officer observed placing a push lawnmower in his shopping cart and proceeded to the grocery department where he selected various food items which he then placed inside of a cooler in the cart.

At a self-checkout register, the suspect scanned some of the items but failed to scan the mower, cooler, and six other items. According to BPD Officer Hutton Grace, the suspect was cited for shoplifting and then was taken to the Independence County Jail for fingerprinting purposes. After being made aware of a district court date, the suspect was released.
