The U. S. Transportation Department, through the Federal Aviation Administration, has funded $793 million in grants to airports across the nation.

About $689 million of the funding comes from the Airport Improvement Program, and another $104 million comes from the recent CARES Act. Congress passed that act to fund assistance to U. S. citizens, businesses, and governmental entities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In north central Arkansas, three airports received funding. Heber Springs Municipal airport received $155,000 for taxiway paving. Horseshoe Bend Airport received $512,000 to expand its runway apron. And Newport Regional Airport will install a visual guidance system with $175,000 in funds it received.
