Billy Joe Cowell of Oklahoma City, Okla., departed this life on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at the age of 80. He was born on February 11, 1940, in Jackson County the son of Okal A. “Bill” and Corrine (Masters) Cowell.
Cowell was a graduate of Newport High School and retired from General Motors. He enjoyed golf, watching tv, and especially spending time with his family during the holidays.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Carnell Cowell and Ronald Dean Cowell.
He is survived by two brothers, Leroy Cowell and wife, Alice, of Newport, and Gerald Cowell and wife, Betty, of South Haven, Miss.; two sisters, Mary Lynn George and husband, Kenneth, of Swifton, and Lou Ann Haigwood of Jacksonport; his sister-in-law, Mary Gladys Cowell; several nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Scotty Cowell, Gerald Cowell, LeRoy Cowell, and Tristen Cowell. All nieces and nephews are honorary pallbearers.
