Izard County Sheriff Jack Yancey said an ongoing investigation by his office and the 16th Judicial District Drug Taskforce into drug trafficking in and around Izard County has led to the arrest of a Batesville man and a bond of $100,000.
Yancey said an area was placed under surveillance July 14 and what was believed to be a delivery was seen taken place. Officers converged on the scene and took Ernesto Salas Berdejo (pictured), 43, of Batesville, into custody.
The department drug dog, Hugo, was deployed and found 2.7 pounds of methamphetamine — which has a street value of $125,000.
A search found Berdejo is currently on parole for a negligent homicide charge. The additional charge he now faces is trafficking a controlled substance (methamphetamine), 200 grams or more. There is also an enhancement to the charge due to the proximity of certain facilities. In addition to Berdejo’s charge and bond, he is also under a hold by the department of corrections.
