Officers from the Batesville Police Department were dispatched to the White River Medical Center’s Stepping Stone facility on Wednesday in reference to a patient attacking a doctor, according to court information from the Independence County Circuit Court.

BPD officer Ryan Pierce arrived and came into contact with the doctor who told Pierce a man identified as Harrell Day Whitaker, 24, was kicking the exit door and then became aggressive toward the doctor, the affidavit for probable cause of arrest said.

The court info states that Pierce viewed security footage from the incident and observed Whitaker moving toward the doctor in an aggressive manner. The affidavit says Whitaker allegedly stuck the doctor twice in the face and kneeled him in the stomach, and then, pursued the doctor down the hallway. There, the court documents say the doctor was trapped in a hallway by Whitaker until security officers could subdue him.

The affidavit says Whitaker was transported by Pierce to the Independence County Detention Facility,

Whitaker is facing one count of second-degree battery. His bond was set at $15,000.
