North central Arkansas COVID-19 cases seem to be peaking

news-2020-5

The coronavirus numbers for north central Arkansas still seem to be moving up toward their peak.

Independence County shoes 152 total positive cases to date with 67 active cases. Also, 85 have recovered from the virus with no fatalities.

On Friday morning, County Judge Robert Griffin told White River Now he is not aware of any “hot spots” in Independence County. However, this week, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has reported looking at recent Arkansas Health Department numbers and noticed Batesville’s Walmart Supercenter was listed in a health department report among the non-poultry businesses in Arkansas as having at least five cases, and all of those infections were active as of Monday.

It should be noted: Although Independence County reports 152 total positive cases, when one divides that number by the number of residents living in the county (over 38,500), the positive cases only make up a small percentage of the population — like 4/10 of one percent.

Here are other north central Arkansas counties and their recent numbers:

  • Cleburne: 165 cases, 23 active
  • Izard: 30 cases, 4 active
  • Jackson: 47 cases. 8 active
  • Lawrence: 150 cases, 35 active, 9 deaths
  • Sharp: 86 cases, 17 active
  • Stone: 39 cases, 13 active
  • White: 185 cases, 37 active
