Gary B.: Coronavirus numbers in Independence County are on the rise

coronavirus-3

Coronavirus numbers have been rising in Independence County in the last four days.  In that period of time, the Arkansas Health Department says 84 new positive cases have been documented — an average of 21 new cases per day.

In the nine days before that, there were no more than 10 new cases per day.

County Judge Robert Griffin says he sees some people as being “less cautious.”

The judge said he could see a continuing number of positive cases until a vaccine is in place and working, saying right now we are looking at an average of one active case per 300 people in Independence County.

He says when you factor in the unknown, the number could very well be one active case per 100 county residents.

He also noted that the number might grow with 7,000 children coming back to school along with a staff of at least 1,000.

The judge continued to admonish county residents to respect their fellow man and practice social distancing as well as to wear masks out in public. He also asks county residents to wear masks where businesses require them and wash your hands frequently.

Griffin did say that there is not an outbreak in the county in any particular place.

Independence County now shows having a total of 210 positive cases (through Sunday) with 112 still active. That’s 53 percent of all positive cases identified. Statistics show 98 have recovered and that the county still reports no deaths from the Coronavirus.

Judge Griffin agreed that 53 percent active figure is the scary figure.
