Independence County Judge Robert Griffin said for this month the county received an increase of 1.47% from the state sales tax, but the county sales tax generated an increase of 19.34%.
Griffin said that means Independence County’s local sales were 17.87% more than the state average.
The numbers reflect May 2020 collections The Judge also noted that in April the local sales were 10.85% more than the state average.
“All in all, our local economy is hitting on all cylinders. We just hope this continues into the end of the year and beyond,” said Judge Griffin.
