Joyce Lavern Wallis Burris, 88, of Newport departed this life Sunday, July 26, 2020. She was born February 20, 1932, to Winslow Winfred and Rhoda Isabell (Long) Wallis. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Burris was a retired LPN, enjoyed working in her flower beds and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Leonard Burris, parents, brother; Glenn Wallis, and grandson; Jarod McElroy.
Her survivors are son; Jerry Dean McElroy (Joan) of Jacksonport, daughters; Brenda J. McClure (Wayne) of Cabot, Sharon Rogers (Ernie) of Tumbling Shoals, and Retha Jean Dudley (Guilford) of Newport, brother; Jerry L. Wallis (Elizabeth) of Mountain Home, sister; Lorene Siepert of Cabot, grandchildren; Deana Campbell, Corbett Calhoun, Kevin Calhoun, Janan McElroy and Lydia Ruble and numerous great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at Watson Cemetery in Newport. Visitation will be at the cemetery from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
