On Thursday, Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens said his staff is investigating the early-morning shooting incident in the Bethesda area Wednesday as a homicide.

Stephens said the individuals involved include the deceased, William Clay Holt, 56, and Robert E. Davis, 42, who is currently hospitalized after being admitted with a gunshot wound after the incident. His medical status is unknown at this time, Stephens said.

The shooting occurred in the 3 a.m. hour Wednesday after a wounded Davis made his way to a neighbor to call 911. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Davis and had him transported to the hospital. They then found the body of Holt with a gunshot wound.

His body was sent to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
