Obituary: Archie Leonard Jones

Archie Leonard Jones, 94, of Batesville passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020.

He was born on June 5, 1926, in Clarksville, Texas to Earl Jones and Evie (James) Jones.

Archie was a graduate of Cushman High School and Arkansas College. He retired from Sears in Memphis Tennessee and returned to Batesville. Archie was a member of Central Avenue United Methodist Church and was recognized for his distinguished service, loyalty and devotion to the Central Avenue United Methodist Men. He taught Sunday school for 50 years and was a devout Christian. He loved his family and took care of his wife, Mary Lee (Kimmer) Jones, during her battle with Alzheimer’s. Archie served in the United States Navy in the Battle of Okinawa during World War II.

Survivors include his two sons, Sammy Jones and his wife, Phyllis of Batesville and Danny Jones and his wife, Terri of Arlington, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Jennifer McMurry, Cristy McKenley, Natalie Yarbro, Erica Daniel and Sarah Gillean; nine great-granddaughters and five great-grandsons; and one sister, Ruby Fay Franks of Batesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 70 years, Mary Lee (Kimmer) Jones.

Pallbearers are Jeremy McKenley, Sean Gillean, Chuck Yarbro, Nick Daniel, Channing Jones and Mike Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie McMurry, Dylan Yarbro, Tom Sellers and Ted Masters.

Graveside services will begin at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville with Rev. Paul Seay and Nick Daniel officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Central Avenue United Methodist Church, 1205 N. Central Avenue, Batesville, AR 72501.

We are complying with the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines and limiting indoor to 50 people at one time. All attendees must provide and wear their own masks before entering and distancing will be observed.
