The Southerners rushed for 342 yards but came up short to the Pocahontas Redskins, 49-33 in the season opener Friday night at Stewart Field.
The Southerners trailed by three touchdowns before battling back and cutting the lead to eight, 41-33.
Pocahontas scored with nine seconds left and added a two-point conversion and a busted extra point to make the final score.
Landon Haas had 137 yards and three touchdowns, Brendan Frazier had 131 yards and two touchdowns for Southside who fell to 0-1 in the season.
The Southerners travel to Mayflower next week for a non-conference matchup that starts at 7 p.m.
