One-vehicle accident on 167 claims life of Southside man

news-2020-19

A Southside man was killed Thursday in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 167 near Rocky Point Materials.

According to the Arkansas State Police, William Hiett, 23, was traveling south on Highway 167 when he failed to negotiate a right curve. Hiett’s pick-up truck traveled across both northbound lanes until it made contact with a private drive that led to a field.

At that point, Trooper First Class Chris Barnett noted the truck became airborne and continued to travel southeast before striking the ground. Hiett was then ejected from his vehicle before the truck overturned, according to Barnett’s report.

The weather was clear at the time of the accident, which occurred around 12 p.m. Road conditions were dry.

The accident was the 409th fatality on Arkansas highways in 2020.
