Edith (Beard) Grigsby of Newport, departed this life on Monday, September 7, 2020, at the age of 87. She was born January 13, 1933, in Jackson County, the daughter of Eli Beard, Sr., and Christine (Pruitt) Beard.
She was a 1950 graduate of Newport High School and obtained her LPN License in 1988.
She began her career working at Newport Hospital. Later she joined her daughter, Kathy, and son-in-law, Dr. Roger Green, caring for many patients over the years.
She enjoyed cooking and gardening. She loved giving instructions to her family in both. She had a great love for family and friends. Her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Holden Avenue Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rexford Felix Grigsby, Sr.; one son, Rexford F. Grigsby, Jr.; four brothers, Billy Beard, Eli Beard, Sr., Buster Beard, and Hubert Beard; one sister, Jessie Carson; and her parents.
She is survived by one son Larry Grigsby of Weldon; two daughters, Kathy Green and husband, Dr. Roger Green, of Newport, and Lou Mitchel and husband, Wes, of Graford, Texas; one brother, Marcus Beard of Tyler, Texas; one sister, Betty Ellis of Newport; nine grandchildren; Alan Grigsby, Jared Grigsby, Kristi Grigsby, Daniel Grigsby, Andrea Adams, Dr. Alison Green, Elizabeth Green, Weston “Trey” Mitchel and Katelyn Mitchel; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Wednesday, September 9, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2020, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ryan Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Sandhill Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jared Grigsby, Daniel Grigsby, Mark Ellis, Eric Ellis, Jim Beard and Bill Beard. Honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Grigsby’s grandsons, great-grandsons, and nephews.
