Obituary: Geraldine Gardner Barber Wood

Geraldine Gardner Barber Wood departed this life at Batesville on September 8, 2020, at the age of 93. She was born on September 10, 1926, in Batesville.

She graduated from Newark High School. She was married to Forrest Glynn Barber. Together they raised three children.

She was a member of the Newark Church of Christ. She was also a homemaker and worked at various jobs.

Her greatest love and enjoyment came from time spent with her family. She was loving, caring and thoughtful. Many meals were prepared in her home. Everyone loved her banana cake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Delphia (Vaughn) Gardner; husbands, Forrest Glynn Barber and Doyle Wood; grandson, Adam Barber; five sisters, Stella Kuhn, Geneva Bevans, Marjorie Jolly, Lorene Busch, Alice Harding; half-sister, Enid Trotter; brother, Renvil Gardner and infant brother, Riley Gardner.

She is survived by her son, Freddie Mack Barber (Sue) of Newark; two daughters, Glenda Sue Austin (Jimmy), of Newark and Lyda Ann Harris (Larry), of Strawberry; four grandchildren, Kevin Harris (Jeanetta), of Batesville, Kimberly McDermott (Kelly), of Garland, Texas, Melissa Morgan of Newark, Amy Riney (Alan), of Jonesboro; six great-grandchildren, Jared Harris, Chelsea Harris, Ashley Austin, Tyler Richmond, Austin Richmond, and Holden McDermott; five great-great-grandchildren, Gavin Stiles, Slade Harris, Berkleigh Richmond, Olivia Stiles, and Hadley Fran; one sister, Lu Tatera (Jack), of Little Rock; several nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Kevin Harris, Kelly McDermott, Jared Harris, Tyler Richmond, Holden McDermott, Austin Richmond, and Alan Riney. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Harris and Jimmy Austin.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Friends may visit at Jackson’s Newark Funeral Home Saturday 9:00 a.m. until 9:40 a.m.
