Helen Ruth (Price) Knotts, of Newport, departed this life on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at the age of 78. She was born May 26, 1942, in Meridian, Mississippi, the daughter of Jasper Price and Ida (Mabry) Cross.
She worked for many years as a waitress at Kettle Pancake House in Houston, Texas. She enjoyed fishing and playing cards. She loved her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She was lovingly known as “The Mama of the River Rats”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Knotts; and two brothers, Terry Cross and Junior Cross.
She is survived by three daughters, Cora Len Harris of Newport, Vanessa Lee Tapp and husband, Larry, of Newport, and Robbie Gail Boyd of Mississippi; her adopted daughter, Tammy Jordan; two stepsons, Mike Knotts and Joel Knotts, both of Texas; two step-daughters, Charlene Clark and Heidi Woods, both of Texas; eight grandchildren, Gary Smith, Charles Smith, Michael Smith, Carl Hagans, Robert Hagans, Dale Boyd, Chris Boyd, and Alan Boyd; three adopted grandchildren, Gracie Jordan, Hannah Jordan, and Noah Jordan; six great-grandchildren, Samantha Smith, Jessica Smith, Latasha Smith, Angela Smith, Hadley Hagans, and Abby Hagans; and many other friends and relatives.
Memorial services are 3:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2020, at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Leonard Wood officiating.
