Obituary: Amanda (Gayle) Chapman

Amanda (Gayle) Chapman, of Newport, departed this life on Monday, September 14, 2020, at the age of 41. She was born on October 24, 1978, in Jonesboro.

Following high school, she attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. She worked at White River Planning and Development District out of Batesville, serving Jackson and Woodruff counties as a Career Specialist. Amanda was a devoted mother and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Sue Deckelman, and her grandmother, Bobbye Sue Deckelman.

She is survived by two sons, Nathan Edwards and Colson Chapman, both of Newport; two daughters, Madison Chapman of Newport, and Taylor (Houston) Tubbs of Haughton, La.; one half-sister, Caitlin Whittle of Pipe Creek, Texas; her grandfather, L.D. Deckelman of Harrisburg; her fiance, Blake Pretty of Newport; and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home, Saturday, September 19, 2020, beginning at noon. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Tommy Berry, Ashley Edwards, Landon Edwards, Eli Long, Rodney Polston, and Josh Parker.
