Obituary: Helen (Douglas) Sharp of Newport

Helen (Douglas) Sharp of Newport departed this life on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at the age of 82. She was born on October 28, 1937, in Newport, the daughter of Henry and Nora Ann (Perrin) Douglas.

She married Mr. Franklin “Bo” Sharp on May 13, 1955, and together they spent 54 years and raised four children. She was a graduate of Tuckerman High School and went on to earn her RN license. She worked as Director of Nursing for GPW and Rolling Hills Nursing Home.

She enjoyed camping and working in her flower beds. She loved spending time with her family, especially when they brought watermelon!

She was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Franklin “Bo” Sharp; her parents; one brother, Henry Lee Douglas; and three sisters, Dean Hammock, Wilma Leonard, and Janie Garner.

She is survived by one son, Robert Franklin “Bobby” Sharp of Atkins; three daughters, Karen Anderson and husband, David, Kathy Smith, and Karla Stoner, all of Newport; eleven grandchildren, Bryon Anderson, Michael Anderson and wife, Jamie, Brook Scoggins and husband, Keith, Cody Sharp and wife, Katy, Meredith Sharp, Kase Sharp, Shane Smith and wife, Amelia, Cory Smith, Katy Warren and husband, Dustin, Whitney Anderson, and Dustin Anderson; several great-grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends.

Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2020, at Cheshier Cemetery with Bobby Sharp and Bro. Vance Penn officiating.

Her grandsons are honored to serve as pallbearers, Bryon Anderson, Shane Smith, Dustin Warren, Keith Scoggins, Kase Sharp, David Anderson, Dustin Anderson, Ethan, Landon, and Avery Anderson.

Due to COVID-19, masks are required for attendance to visitations and funerals at Jackson’s Funeral Home.
