Ash Flat woman dies in one-vehicle accident east of Salem

An 82-year-old Ash Flat woman was killed Saturday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 62, three miles east of Salem in Fulton County.

According to the Arkansas State Police preliminary fatality report, the victim, Shirley Bonewits, was a passenger in a 1999 Lincoln driven by James Bonewits, 81, that was traveling west on Highway 62.

The report said the Lincoln left the roadway and struck a fence.

James Bonewits was taken to UAMS in Little Rock for injuries sustained in the accident. The report noted the weather was clear, and the roadway dry.

Shirley Bonewits was the 452nd fatality on Arkansas highways this year.
