Authorities from the Independence County Sheriff’s Department received a report Sunday of a man trying to break into residences in the early morning hours at Sulphur Rock.

The man, identified in the incident report as Clint Edward Speakman, 34, of Sulphur Rock, was found at 550 Main St.

In the report, Deputy Kyle Tucker said that as Speakman was being arrested, Tucker saw him throw something onto the ground. As Tucker continued with the arrest, he reported Speakman was yelling and not making clear statements. At one point, the deputy said he heard Speakman say there were “…people trying to shoot him.”

Speakman was handcuffed and taken to jail.

The report said Tucker was advised of information from the public that some suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in the area where Speakman was taken into custody. On Tucker’s return, he seized the suspected narcotics and paraphernalia and secured them as evidence in the case, the report noted.

Possible charges against Speakman include: possession of a narcotic — namely methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal trespass, public intoxication, and disorderly conduct.
