Local poultry operations rank third and fourth in the state based on the number of employees

Two poultry operations in Batesville are part of companies that rank third and fourth in the state based on the number of employees. 

The ranking, featured in the Sept. 21-27 issue of Arkansas Business, George’s Inc., and Peco Foods Inc. ranked in the top five poultry companies operating in Arkansas.

Georges Inc. is ranked third with 4,200 Arkansas employees and 7,200 employees in its entire operation.

George’s Inc. is based in Springdale, AR, and is a privately held, 4th generation, family-owned poultry company. The company two CEOs, Carl George and Charles George. 

Peco Foods Inc. is ranked fourth with almost as many employees in its entire operation as Georges Inc. with 7,000.

In Arkansas, Peco Inc. has 3,500 employees with sites in Batesville, Corning, Newark, and Pocahontas. The company produces poultry products for the dinner table and poultry feed. Mark Hickman is Peco’s President and CEO. 

The largest poultry operation in the state of Arkansas is Tyson Foods Inc.

Tyson sells under brand names such as Tyson, Jimmy Dean, State Fair, and Hillshire Farms.

Tyson employs 24,000 individuals in Arkansas and 141,000 across the country.
