Holly Goslin is a millennial, a foster dog mom, and an award-winning English teacher. This year, she added another title to the list when she was awarded the annual Outstanding Faculty award at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville (UACCB).

Each year, the college awards an outstanding faculty member based on excellence in teaching and service. Goslin graduated from Wynne High School, and soon after, she received her bachelor’s degree in English in 2007 from Harding University in Searcy. She went on to get her master’s from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. She was an adjunct professor at Harding for five years before coming to teach at UACCB in the fall of 2015.

In addition to teaching, Goslin is also a published writer. She has several articles published in online and print publications, but she is also excited about a poem that will be in the pages of an academic journal of poetry.

Each day, Goslin drives from Judsonia to her job teaching English at UACCB where her students call her a “ray of sunshine no matter the situation.” Her students say she always makes time for them and is there to help them when they need it.

“I really like working at UACCB specifically,” Goslin said. “It makes the commute worth it.”

She and her husband also foster dogs. Goslin has been fostering as long as she has been teaching. She currently has seven dogs of her own and three foster dogs.

The Outstanding Faculty Award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching and professional public service. To be eligible for the award, the recipient must hold a full-time appointment and have completed one full year of service at UACCB.

Students shared on their nomination forms for Goslin that she is always there for them with a listening ear, makes learning fun, and is skilled at connecting with students and engaging them in the lessons.

One student commented on Goslin’s nomination form, “She teaches us in ways that are easy to understand and makes it relatable so that the information is easy to understand. I always enjoyed coming to her class, and she is not afraid to share her opinions and let us freely share ours as well as it pertains to our learning.”

Another student commented, “She shows her knowledge of the subject by her in-depth lessons. She works to make sure the whole class has an understanding of the topic. She has met with me, as well as other students after class to help with any class questions but to also help with composition related things outside of class. Her positive approach to the importance of the learning of her students has had a great impact on me, and I have recommended her to incoming UACCB students.”
