batesville-main-street-jan-2019-7

During the “New Business” segment of the Tuesday evening Batesville City Council meeting, the aldermen will hear Crystal Johnson, president and CEO of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, present a report on the advertising and promotion tax. The council will also hear from the Independence County Library, and members will also discuss Issue 1 — The Transportation Sales Tax Continuation Amendment.

Issue 1 is one of three proposed changes to the Arkansas Constitution on the November ballot. The half-cent sales tax that provides revenue for the state’s infrastructure — namely the roadways — is to “sunset” in 2023, or no longer be collected. Issue 1 would permanently extend the tax, bringing in millions of dollars in road revenue.

The council is also scheduled for an executive session during the meeting.

The meet is scheduled to begin 5:30 p.m. at the Batesville Community Center, 1420 S. 20th St.
