Independence County Clerk Tracey Mitchell said she has now sent out 733 absentee ballots, and that by election day, that number will probably be around 1,000.
“As far as absentee ballots, everything is going smoothly,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell said the absentee ballot number is double what it usually is, noting that was expected this year after Gov. Asa Hutchinson said “fear of contracting COVID-19” was an acceptable reason to ask for an absentee ballot.
Independence County has over 21,500 registered voters, and a 58-to-60 percent turnout would be “excellent,” according to Mitchell.
