A high-speed pursuit of a motorcyclist that started in Cave City on Tuesday morning ended with the suspect colliding with a vehicle atop Ramsey Mountain at The Triangle Cafe.

According to a release from Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens, his office was notified of a vehicle pursuit coming from Cave City heading towards Batesville this morning.

Sheriff Stephens was on U.S. Highway 167 just north of Batesville and went to assist. In the release, Stephens said he came in contact with the motorcycle and the Cave City Police Officer at Spring Valley. The pursuit continued south towards Batesville. Several officers from the sheriff’s department and the Batesville Police Department attempted to get the motorcycle to stop without success.

The motorcycle continued through Batesville and south of the river bridge. The operator of the motorcycle, later identified as Guyton Winningham, went up Ramsey Mountain and attempted to turn on to Triangle Lane, according to the release.

The motorcycle sideswiped a jeep and lost control, coming to rest in the parking lot of Triangle Cafe. The operator of the motorcycle was taken into custody, and EMS was notified to respond. The operator of the jeep stated he was not injured and was not requesting medical attention.

Sheriff Stephens requested the Arkansas State Police to respond to work the accident. Winningham was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the accident.

The Cave City officer was on scene and stated they would have charges from the pursuit at a later date so Winningham could get the treatment that he needed.
