Batesville man killed in overnight vehicle accident on Newport Road

A Batesville man died early Thursday morning in a one-vehicle accident on Newport Road in Independence County.

The Arkansas State Police report a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Colten Charles Henry Vickers, 23, was traveling westbound on Newport Road when the vehicle failed to maintain control in a right-hand curve and struck a tree on a roadside.

Vickers’ vehicle then struck another tree and came to a rest.

The fatality report says Vickers was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene upon arrival by an officer. The report notes Detective Michael Moody of the Independence County Sheriff’s Department was the investigating officer.

Road conditions were reported dry while weather conditions were clear. The accident occurred around 12:40 a.m.
