Arkansas reports more than 1,200 new coronavirus cases

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas has reported more than 1,200 new probable and confirmed coronavirus cases, one of its biggest one-day spikes since the pandemic began.

The Health Department on Thursday said the state’s total cases rose by 1,202 from Wednesday to 102,798.

The state’s deaths from COVID-19, the illness caused by the virus, rose by 21 to 1,772.

Figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University researchers show the state ranks 11th in the country for new cases per capita.

The state’s COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped by 24 to 612. The state has seen a surge in hospitalizations in recent weeks.
