A Batesville man is facing three counts of distributing, possessing, and viewing of matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.

According to the arrest affidavit filed in Independence County Circuit Court on Friday, authorities discovered a computer from an IP address in the area had been identified as offering to make available child sexual exploitation material for a period of time on Dec. 9, 2019. After a few subpoenas to Suddenlink Communications, the IP address was found to be registered to David Shannon Canady (pictured below), 39, of Batesville.

Court information said special agents from the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office paid a visit to Canady’s residence and asked to speak to him regarding concerns about internet activity that had taken place at the residence. After Canady agreed to let the agents preview his desktop computer for any questionable files, the affidavit noted pictures of underage children not related to Canady were discovered. Canady told the agents the children were “neighbors and children of friends.”

The court information also said Canady further agreed to have a forensic tool placed on his computer to look for explicit images. It was then the agents discovered “dozens of images containing child sexual exploitation material,” including some of the same images that were made available on Dec. 9, 2020, the arrest affidavit said.

Canady was taken into custody by the Independence County Sheriff’s Department and booked on three felony counts of distributing, possessing, or viewing of matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child. His bond was set at $30,000.
