Another defensive battle for the Southerners Friday night in Little Rock against the Comets of Little Rock Mills with the Southerners falling 14-6.
The Comets scored on a two-yard run with 2:38 left before halftime to go up 6-0, the two-point conversion attempt failed.
The Southerners knocked on the door twice in the first half but failed to score and the Comets led 6-0 at the half.
Skylar Anorve nailed a 27-yard field goal attempt with 4:18 to play in the third and cut in the lead in half 6-3.
Anorve hit another 27-yard touchdown to tie the game with 5:52 left in the game 6-6.
The Comets drove 88 yards and got into the end zone with 1:54 left in the game and tacked on a two-point conversion to go up 14-6.
Brycen Sutton returned the ensuing kickoff to the Comets 48-yard line giving the Southerners one last attempt to tie the game.
The Southerners came up short on fourth down and two with 28 seconds left.
Mills won by a final of 14-6.
