news-siren-96

A Kia passenger car stopped on Highway 66 West near the Searcy County line with its hazard lights flashing prompted a call to Stone County law enforcement on Thursday, Oct. 29.

According to information from Stone County Circuit Court, a citizen who had stopped and called authorities said a man wearing tan shorts without a shirt came out of the woods and started running towards the caller’s vehicle.

When a deputy from the Stone County Sheriff’s Office met the man’s vehicle, now traveling eastbound on Highway 66, the deputy turned around to follow the Kia, the arrest affidavit said. The affidavit noted the deputy observed the car cross the center line multiple times and also noted the car’s hazard lights were still flashing.

After stopping the vehicle and running a check on the driver, the deputy discovered the man, identified as Jose Dejesus Cano, Jr., 40, had a suspended driver’s license, the court info said.

Cano was taken into custody and to the Stone County Detention Facility for booking on driving with a suspended driver’s license. An inventory of the Kia was made, and authorities discovered a baggie of methamphetamine and a bag of marijuana in the driver’s side door, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit said a search warrant was obtained, and officials further discovered a pair of pants in the back seat that contained a dollar bill with a small amount of meth on it in the watch pocket. Court records say authorities also found an arrest deposition report from Grant County that had Cano’s name on it and showed pending drug and traffic charges from Aug. 16.

Cano was placed in jail on a $15,000 bond. He is facing one felony count of possession of meth, a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, and a misdemeanor count of driving while the license is suspended.
