Herbert W. Heffington, Jr. of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at the age of 86.
He was born July 16, 1934, in Newport, Arkansas, the son of Herbert Walter, Sr. and Jewell Jane (McCartney) Heffington.
Heffington was a 1952 graduate of Newport High School. Following high school, he attended Arkansas State College where he graduated in 1956, with a degree in business. He married Miss Wilma Snyder on Sept. 2, 1955. Together they shared 65 years of happiness, love, and great friendship.
Upon the couple’s return to Newport, Heffington became the owner and operator of Star Clothing in Newport. He retired in 1984 when he sold the clothing store, he began managing the family farming interests. He was a devoted member of the Holden Avenue Church of Christ. He had many hobbies which included watching baseball, fishing, and boating at their lake house. He enjoyed spending time in the yard with his wife. His greatest joy came from being with his family, especially the time spent with his grandchildren.
Heffington will forever be remembered for his great love of family, the care he gave his parents, and his kind and generous spirit. He will also be remembered for the very fine Christian example he set for everyone with whom he came in contact.
Heffington was preceded in death by his parents, and a cousin, who he loved as a sister, Angela Coe.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wilma (Snyder) Heffington of the home; one daughter, Cynthia Weeks and husband, John, of Burlison, Texas; two grandchildren, Gabrielle Curl of Memphis, Tennessee, and Torrance Weeks of Galveston, Texas; and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral services will be private at the family’s request.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Mark Hutson, Dean Hutson, Billy Curl, Bob McCollum, Freddy Gates, Perry Stegall, Terry Snyder, and R. M. Bledsoe.
