Department of Health releases new COVID-19 nursing home stats

The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) reports some area nursing homes have experienced an increase in positive coronavirus cases in the past 14 days.

ADH records show Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehab in Ash Flat had 36 residents test positive in the last 14 days with 36 still active as of Nov. 16. The date of the most recent resident testing positive was Nov. 13. ADH also reported that 12 staff members at Eaglecrest tested positive in the past 14 days with 12 being active as of the reporting date.

As of Nov. 16, the ADH reports Pioneer Therapy and Living at Melbourne had 30 residents test positive in the past 14 days with 30 being active as of the reporting date. The date of the latest resident testing positive was on Nov. 4. The department said at the same time, there were 19 staff members at Pioneer who tested positive in the last 14 days with 19 active on the reporting date. The last positive test of a staff member was on Nov. 4.

At The Springs of Batesville, the ADH reports 16 residents had tested positive in the last 14 days with 15 still active as of Nov. 16. The date of the resident most recently tested positive was on Nov. 5. There were also four staff members who tested positive during the past 14 days with four active as of Nov. 16. The last staff member positive test was Nov. 5.

And the ADH also reports that as of Nov. 16, Wood-Lawn Heights in Batesville had no residents test positive and three staff members test positive in the past 14 days with three active staff cases at the reporting date. The last positive staff member test was on Nov. 12.

Altogether, the state has had 6,327 positive resident cases and 4,506 positive staff cases. The department says 961 nursing home residents and three staff members have died of COVID-19 complications during the pandemic as of Nov. 16.

That is 42 percent of the state’s entire death total to date of 2,297 (as of Nov. 19).
