Both Southerner teams victorious on the road at Quitman Thursday evening

The Lady Southerners were a little cold from the floor Thursday night at Quitman but hit several big shots to pull out a 42-41 win.   

Southside trailed at end of the first quarter 12-7.

Brett Gardner scored nine of her game-high 21 points in the second quarter to give the Lady Southerners two-point lead halftime.

Quitman took the lead 39-37 at the end of the end. 

A basket by sophomore Carrigan Cossey gave the Southerners a 42-41 lead and Quitman missed a last-second shot attempt to give the Lady Southerners the win.

 

Devan Halford scores 28 points to lead the Southerners to a dominating 67-32 win over Quitman’s senior boys Thursday night to run their record to 5-0 on the young season.

The Southerners jumped out to the early lead with three, three-pointers.

In the first quarter, two by Jake Painter and one by Blayne Bufford, to take an early 13-6 lead.

Halford scored 14 points in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 32-15 at the half.

With four, three-pointers in the third quarter the Southerners left no doubt on the outcome.

The Southerners hit 10 three-pointers on the night and Trevor Longo had six blocked shots.
