LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas’ coronavirus cases have increased by more than 3,000 for the first time, a new record for the state.

The Department of Health on Thursday said the state’s confirmed and probable cases rose by 3,039 to 194,543.

The state’s COVID-19 deaths increased by 38 to 3,112. The number of people hospitalized because of COVID-19 increased by five to 1,084.

Availability in the state’s intensive care units continued to drop. Gov. Asa Hutchinson called the latest rise a milestone the state did not want to reach and called on people to focus on distancing and wearing masks to slow the virus’ spread.
