Gary Lee Fortenberry, 70, of Newport departed this life Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021.
He was born May 21, 1950, to Kenneth Claude Fortenberry and Deliah (Callahan) Fortenberry.
Fortenberry retired from Riceland Foods after working there for thirty-seven years.
He enjoyed being outside, he was always walking, doing work in his yard, or grilling. His culinary skills were not only used at the grill, but he also enjoyed preparing breakfast.
You could often find him reading his bible, but more often you could find him spending time with his grandchildren. This was one of his favorite past times. Gary also loved talking to people and always had a smile on his face.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karla Fortenberry; his brothers, Buddy Fortenberry and Jim Fortenberry.
He is survived by his companion, Willene Howes; his son, Ashley Fortenberry of Jonesboro; his daughter, Leah Cox (Jay) of Newport; brothers, John Fortenberry (Donna) of Conway, Chuck Fortenberry (Shirley) of Jonesboro; sister, Kaye Fisher of Cave City, and Rose Mary Etheridge of Tuckerman; grandchildren; Jacob Cox of Newport, Hannah Cox of Newport, Kaylee Fortenberry of Newport, and a bonus granddaughter, Erica Lore, and several special nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Dillinger Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. in the chapel.
Brother Brandon Gates and Brother Marty Russell will be officiating.
